About Hammy

Passed on September 11, 2016

I remember rushing home to find you in my room as a gift from my brother and I was so excited to start out my new life as a mother. At first I was shocked by the amount of energy you had and it drove me crazy when you would run all night long on your wheel. I was annoyed that you would chew on everything but the hundreds of chew toys that I bought for you. Thinking back, I was crazy enough to stay up until two in the morning waiting for you to wake up so that we can play together, but it was worth it. I enjoyed every moment that you were awake. I guess having a nocturnal pet means losing some sleep.

Fast forwarding to two years (although it had seemed longer), you started to show some signs of old age by sleeping more and being less active. It was unfair that you were only given less than 3 years on earth. I knew your time was coming and tried my best to prepare for it. On some days you were doing better and it was a shock to see you go unexpectedly. No matter how much time I gave myself to prepare, I am still heartbroken over your passing. You were my first pet and my first baby. I hope that the love I gave you made you happy and the time spent with me gave you joy. I’ll cherish all the time I was able to spend with you. Letting you go was one of the hardest thing I’ve ever done, but I know that you are in a better place where you can run as much as you want and eat all the sunflower seeds to your heart’s content.

Love,
Mommy
