Diamond

March 4, 2009 - December 16, 2019

A diamond is worn to symbolize eternal love, and the diamond symbol has long been valued for its immaculate beauty. The Greeks believed diamonds were tears of the gods and the Romans believed they were splinters of fallen stars. Cupids' arrows were supposed to be tipped with diamonds, thus having a magic that nothing else could equal. These things are rare and wondrous, and as it turns out, our Diamond was aptly named.

She was christened Diamond by her human child for the diamond shapes on her back, and it ended up being the perfect name because she was more precious than any gem one could ever buy. She was THE best dog in the universe, and anyone who ever met her would not dispute that. She was a big dog in a little dog's body and had the confidence, the energy, and the speed to rival any dog out there.

Diamond LOVED playing ball. She knew it was time to go to bed when the ball was put away for the evening, but only then would she stop asking for it to be thrown. She loved her walks and marking her territory. Many times she was told that she wasn't a male dog, but she still insisted on lifting her leg to let the other dogs know she had been there. She was great at "nose burying" toys and treats in the carpet, in a corner, or anywhere out of sight. It was the cutest thing to watch and she made many people smile with her antics. She was a digger and loved sand the best, but she certainly wasn't afraid to use the couch or a comforter in a pinch. Other dogs love car rides, but she disliked them from day one. If you were holding her in the car, your clothes would be covered in Diamond hair, and no one who has experienced it will ever forget. The only thing she hated more than car rides was being separated from her human.

I was that lucky human and she was my beloved and cherished dog; I am not sure how I got blessed with such a wonderful companion. We had a beautiful and special bond and made many incredible memories. But so many other people played a part in her life, especially her human child, grandparents, aunts and uncles, and her canine cousins. For those relationships, we are forever grateful. She took a huge piece of my heart with her when she had to leave this world much too soon and I miss her dearly. I will miss smothering her in kisses and getting them in return, her ears where she wore her heart, her cute little tail and butt, and the sound of her feet while she was chasing her ball.

Diamond, the tears have not stopped falling, but you're no longer in pain and have found peace. Rest easy and play ball to your heart's content! Your passing leaves a vast void, but you will forever be in our hearts. Best. Dog. Ever.

We love you forever,

Catie (the lucky human) and Caroline (the human child who grew up along with Diamond!
