About Ellie May

Passed on January 26, 2012

Ellie was our beautiful boxer girl. She was absolutely the best thing that ever happened to us, and her absence has left a void in our hearts that can never be filled. She completed our family circle, fitting into our lives so perfectly, like it was just meant to be – a match made in heaven one might say.
She was a fixture in our lives, passing nearly a decade of time with us, marking the years, making each one so much happier and more memorable with her presence. We think of the milestones in our life that we’ll always remember her being a part of, our first home, our wedding, new jobs, moving to our second home, watching our extended family grow with each marriage, each birth of a new niece and nephew, all of whom she adored and was always so, so excited to see – nothing could get that boxer wiggle going in full force like seeing one of our sisters or any of the kids. The kids learned quickly to turn their faces away or be mauled with sloppy Ellie kisses. Everyone in our family loved Ellie.
We have so many wonderful memories of our time with Ellie. She did absolutely everything with us. On our camping trips, she loved being outdoors and hiking in the woods, but oh how she hated sitting out by the camp fire. She would always go stand in front of the tent letting us know she wanted to go to bed. But as soon as we let her in, she wanted to come back out. She just wanted to be by us. So we eventually purchased an inflatable dog bed. That with an old blanket was a pretty cozy place for her lay down on by the campfire until it was time to retire for the night.
It brought us so much joy just to see her happy. There were walks on beautiful days where everyone would have a spring in their step, and she was no different. She’d be trotting up ahead and look back at us with the biggest smile on her face. We know she was saying to us “Isn’t this just great guys? It doesn’t get any better than this!” And she was notorious for what we called the “fly by lick”. In true boxer fashion she’d leap into mid-air as high as an adult male stands, sometimes while running at full speed, with a perfectly timed lick across the intended target’s face.
My mom always liked to say she was broken because she never barked. When she wanted your attention her favorite noise was what we deemed the Chewbacca cry – it sounded just like the character from Star Wars. And she LOVED the fireplace. It wasn’t uncommon for her to stand in front of it just looking in and then looking back at us. This was her way of asking us to turn it on for her. She was definitely spoiled, but for all the joy she brought into our lives, she deserved every last bit of it.
Ellie had a wonderful life, and as much as we hoped she could be with us just a little bit longer, we knew it was time to let her go. We loved her so very much, every single one of the days we were blessed to have her in our lives. The memories, the picture of that adorable face – snaggle tooth, big tongue and all, these are all imprinted on our hearts and in our minds and will never be forgotten. We miss her so very much. Rest in peace, Ellie.
