Chad Winston Merz

My special boy Chad was born on September 8, 2012. A tiny little guy but he had no problem making his presence known early on. He was united with his brother Charlie who was born on October 28, 2011. When he was able and despite being younger, Chad took charge and Charlie was more than delighted to let him lead the way. They quickly became a team, inseparable and always demanding to be the center of attention no matter the circumstances. They became known as “The Boys”. They were a loving, playful, show stealing duo. Pure delight. We had nine glorious, joyful and loving years together when tragedy struck in early October 2020. Charlie was diagnosed at the U of M Small Animal Hospital with inoperable neuro cancer passing away on November 2, 2020. Chad and I were devastated but held together. Chad over the next six years was a devoted, loving sole, dedicated and a loyal companion. As the years passed, Chads health began to show signs of aging, however, he was resilient and determined to make the best of his life and had an unbelievable ability to persevere. Then in June of 2023 Chad had a freak accident when he broke his left front elbow. The orthopedic department at the U of M offered four options. Surgery however, because of his age and small size the odds were 50/50, amputation, euthanasia or wait and see how he does. The only option was to wait and see. Even though the leg became useless he, again, made the best of his situation with a limp and got around as usual. Always loving he was dedicated until he joined his brother on June 30, 2026, with a peaceful passing to join the Angles of Yorkies. I am left with a huge void in my life and a broken heart but the joyful memories he left me with give me comfort. Chad was a special soul that taught me about determination, strength, resilience and love. I’ll always love you Chad and hold you in my heart and pray that you and Charlie are safe, loved and protected.
