A friend of mine told me that pets choose you and I’m glad Stache did.
My wife and I had moved into our first apartment and she had told me she really would like to have a pet, specifically a kitten. We faced a few challenges. We were not permitted to have pets and when she was a child, she had grown up with terrible allergies around animals. After a few conversations with the Mrs. and after finding out our apartment managers didn’t mind cats, as long as they stayed out of sight, I went to a local pet store to adopt our new family member.
The day I was heading to the pet store I had mentioned it to a friend at work. He had told me “pets choose you.” With that in mind I entered the store and in a large octagon container, a huge litter of kittens frolicked doing all kinds of kitten things. Out of all the kittens’ one approached me and stretched on the plastic wall of the container. I looked at the little black and white fuzz ball and said, “Hey fella, would you like to come home with me”? The clerk standing next to me said that they had named him Stache because of his half mustache and half goatee. I replied that I would like to take Stache home and I did.
The Mrs. worked nights so I had some time to let my lil’buddy explore the apartment and become familiar to his new surroundings. Time flew by as we played and investigated the apartment, till I realized we only had a few minutes till the Mrs. came home. I picked up Stache and placed him in an empty CCM bag I used for hockey and we played peek-a-boo till we could surprise her.
Stache peeked out from the bag as his mom opened the apartment door. Instantly, she dropped her college books, threw her coat off and dashed over to scoop him up, giving him the biggest hug that you can imagine. She cradled him in her arms and asked with a tearful joy “What’s his name”? “Stache” I replied. “He’s so tiny and so fluffy” she said, as she gave him extra Eskimo kisses and little pecks of his forehead.
Stache grew up in Canton, Ohio and enjoy living in Minnesota for the past 2 years. He loved playing in water ever since he was little and he sang in the shower. He would sit and watch the birds and squirrels while purring in the warm sunlight. He would jiggle his tail when he meowed for his morning breakfast and liked batting around paper balls and the safety rings from the plastic milk jugs.
Stache you were one of a kind and fit in our family perfectly. We will miss you buddy and thanks for choosing us to be your fur-parents.
In loving memory,
Shane, Vicky and Jacob John
