I won’t deny it, it’s been a tough week. Tears still come frequently. She was just a dog, right? Animal lovers will understand what we are going through. Chloe was such a quiet dog that I think she is still here until I’m snapped back to reality. We were very lucky to have Chloe as long as we did. 16 years is a terrific amount of time for a dog to live. She was born with a heart murmur and her breeder was considering putting her down. I wanted her anyway. I was told by her vet she probably wouldn’t live a full life expectancy. She had that and more. Lucky dog…lucky us. I knew the time was coming…probably longer than I want to admit. It was the right thing to do. Chloe was hardly eating if at all these last few weeks. She started hiding which was a sure signal she was giving us that she wanted to go. Still, it’s hard…

Chloe would have hated this rainy day and probably would have refused to go outside. When she was little, I would go out with an umbrella and hover over her on rainy days. That memory makes me laugh every time I let our other dog, Emma, out today.

This picture was taken on Mother’s Day. Just two days before we let Chloe go. She went downhill fast after that. Her passing was very peaceful in our home, in her favorite bed and blanket. We had a wonderful veterinarian that does house calls do the honors. After having this type of procedure done with our other pets in a busy veterinary office, I will never do it that way again. Chloe’s cremation was also performed by another wonderful organization. They were here and took Chloe after and returned her ashes to me the very next day. For all you pet owners out there, unfortunately this day will come for you sometime (hopefully not for a VERY long time!) so I will put the links in the comment section for both organizations if you are in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. I think they also travel out state as well. I cannot say enough wonderful things about these wonderful, caring people. Thank you Dr. Raeyna and Carol! Oh, should mention Dr. Raeyna also does other veterinary services as well. Check her out!

Thank you again to everyone for the outpouring of support and kind words. It’s really appreciated and has helped so much!
