About Willow

Passed on June 20, 2023

Willow, aka “Whiffle” left us on June 20th, 2023 to join the rest of “Nancy’s Animal Farm.” Adopted as a rescue from a puppy mill, we are encouraged to think there are other Willows out there in the world.

She was the pack leader – always paving the way for whatever adventure we threw at her – from running 10 miles, trailblazing through the deep snow, hiking through paths in the woods, to kayaking and boating and fetchings in the lake, Willow was a willing participant, and always ready to go for ride. (Especially if the destination was Dairy Queen!) Not to mention her required two a day walks!

Her fetches were a comedy act to behold – three full rotations before tearing off to catch the ball mid flight.  “Alligator” rolls in the yard was how she scratched her back.  A dead patch of grass in the yard marked her favorite spot to sunbathe, and a place to hang out whenever the lawn was mowed.  She put up with the hair dryer after bath time, vacuums in between baths, and in the last few years, acupuncture.

In her senior years she was treated like royalty – one could see Willow enjoying her “walks” from the view of her cart, as her humans gave her a lift when walking became more challenging.  For some reason, water was best drank out of the outdoor bowl – something about water from the hose.  Her quick learning of the game that rewarded her with 20 treats – and the fact she let you know when it was time for her game – reaffirmed the belief that you can teach an old dog new tricks.

Willow was 16 1/2 when she took the stroll over the rainbow bridge.  She was truly one of a kind.  We’ll miss you ‘ole girl.
