Zandy

March 24, 2013

We had a very long and difficult evening at our house tonight. Sometime this afternoon we realized that Elizabeth’s rabbit had a stroke. He could no longer move half of his body. We knew that there wasn’t anything that we could do but wait. We took turns holding him and comforting him and thanking him for being part of our family. He was originally the classroom rabbit in Mr. Bakke’s science room at Harambee. And we thanked him for making so many children happy by interacting with them. When they had to reconfigure classrooms, we were asked to adopt him. So Zandy came home to live with us on the last day of 5th grade. He and Elizabeth were the best of friends. Dave and I are proud of how she cared for him. His breathing slowed as the evening wore on and we talked about staying up all night with him. We got settled with Elizabeth laying down with him snuggled right up to her. His breathing continued to slow, and he quietly expired just before 10pm. We all pet him one last time and placed him gently in a cardboard box. Of course I am deeply saddened by his death. It is also heart-breaking to guide my daughter through this extremely difficult experience.

Zandy, you were such a good bunny. You will be missed very, very much.
